"Medium weight, fine tannins, layers of spice, restrained red and blue berry fruitiness, a web of Italianate tannins and herbs and brambly savouriness rolled in. It sits tight and dart-shaped in the palate, draws exceptionally long, feels not for now but later yet still has a compelling thing to it that asks you to keep at your glass. Dark-sour cherry, amaro, clove all happening. Superb wine here, all structure and yet all appeal." 95 points, Mike Bennie, The Wine Front

Adelina's blend of Shiraz (68%) and Mataro (32%) was grown in the Springfarm sub-area of the Clare Valley, with the Mataro and a portion of the Shiraz fruit coming from the famed Aberfeldy Vineyard, plus a little Adelina Estate fruit. The elevation around these parts is a serious 440 metres and all up, an imposing 60-70% of this wine comes from vines with an age of around 100 years! The Mataro grows on slightly leaner soils of red sands with clay; and the Adelina Shiraz on lime and slate on clay base. All vineyards are organically grown, (uncertified). Production-wise it's the routine that has served this Estate so well. All fruit is handpicked and destemmed into winemaker Col McBryde's Italian, unlined concrete vats. Maceration times were between 35 and 45 days. Some 65% of the wine is fermented and rested in these tanks with the remainder going into large-format seasoned oak.
