Montalto Pennon Hill Pinot Noir 2018 offers red and blue fruits including red currants, blueberry, sour cherry, cranberry and a hint of wild raspberry combine with florals, dried herb, spice, and earthy forest-floor qualities.
  • On the palate, the generous, juicy red fruits of our Pennon Hill Pinot Noir 2018 meld with bramble and earth, whilst fresh acidity provides verve and a moreish drinkability to the wine.

French oak plays a lovely supportive role adding to the structure and flavour profile by way of mocha notes. Our Pennon Hill Pinot Noir 2017 is an entirely approachable pinot noir with excellent varietal and regional expression typical of the vintage.

Montalto Pennon Hill Pinot Noir 2018 is made from hand-harvested batches of pinot noir grapes from our vineyards that span the Peninsula, with approximately 50 percent coming from our cooler sites in Main Ridge and Red Hill, with the balance hailing from our Merricks and Tuerong vineyards. Multiple clones including MV6, 114, 115, 677, 777, Calera, D4V2 and D5V12 contribute to the blend. The grapes were de-stemmed into 2-tonne open fermenters followed by a short, cold maceration period of between three and five days before the onset of wild fermentation. Barrel fermentation was utilised in 8 percent of the blend. At the completion of primary fermentation, the grapes were pressed and the wine transferred to French oak barriques and puncheons (26 percent new) for natural malo-lactic fermentation. Average skin contact time was 17 days. Barrel maturation was for nine months.

  • 94pts - It's clearly from an excellent season. This is perfumed, juicy, varietal and incredibly drinkable. It begs the word more-ish. Sweet-sour cherries, fresh strawberries, an infusion of woodsy spice and foresty notes. It all works beautifully.
