Best Buy Wine Under $30 - Gourmet Wine Traveller "This is a member of a clutch of line-priced reds and whites that distributor Red + White has just begun importing from the various major Italian regions. They’re all good. The aromas of fresh plum and dark cherry have overtones of slivered almonds and dried banana, while the palate has serious structure and a solid tannin grip that demands hearty, protein-rich food. A bold red wine with authoritative tannins, it would be best in a year or two and will drink well for another 10." - Huon Hooke, Australian Gourmet Traveller WINE

A wonderfully layered wine this montepulciano offers mixed forest fruit scents, slight spices linger; think woody notes. The palate shows generous berry fruit flavours, some great, refreshing acidity with subtle herb and spice complexities. A great, expressive example of Montepulciano.
  • In Jewish texts, Samael is better known as the ‘Angel of Death.’ It is believed that Samael is both good and evil in that he does the work of God but desires man to do evil. Samael is viewed as a seducer as was first spoken of in the Talmud as assuming the role of the serpent and tempting Eve in the Garden of Eden. The correlation here is that Montepulciano can be a very alluring and seductive grape that lends itself to pleasurable drinking. That said, often time Montepulciano is simple, thin and insipid. It is both good and bad.

The grapes were handpicked and pressed to tank for fermentation. Fermentation was carried out over seven days on skins with frequent pumpovers. A further week on skins post-ferment brought a little more structure. The wine was pressed to barrel to age for seven months prior to being blended and racked to stainless steel tanks to settle prior to bottling.
This comes from an organically farmed, single vineyard in Chieti located less than half a mile from the Adriatic Sea.
