"It's not a great way to start a review of grenache, but it fits: distinct 'pinosity' here. Light, lithe, fine and svelte. Gossamer web of pomegranate, light spice, rose hip tea character. Fine tannins stretch from mid palate through to a fan of light chew. It's really pretty, but also shows some assertive nature too. Bitter in that totally pleasing way. This is superb. Understated yet has so much to say." 95 points, Mike Bennie, The Wine Front

Even as avid fans of this wine, we think it has really hit its straps in recent vintages. When you know the story behind the wine, the sublime quality starts to make sense; it's grown in a tiny, old-vine 2-acre parcel a stone's throw from the iconic Wendouree vineyard and takes its muse from Emmanuel Reynaud's legendary Château Rayas.

  • Adelina's Grenache--an ode to Emmanuel Reynaud's legendary Château Rayas--is sourced from an Estate-owned, old-vine 2-acre parcel planted in 1942 on dessicated grey loams. Otherwise known as the Springvale block, or Block 2, it's also just a stone's throw away from the iconic Wendouree vineyard. Talk about standing on the shoulders of giants! As for the winemaking specs, Col notes that the fruit was 100% destemmed with 50% whole berries used for fermentation. The wine then spent 19 days on skins, before being pressed to larger format neutral French oak for 10 months.
