Ferraton Père et Fils La Source Saint-Joseph AOC 2015Regular price $269.94 Sale price $209.94
Hailing from one of the regions top producers in Ferraton and from a vintage described as 'A vintage of a lifetime' from a legend of the Rhone in Marcel Guigal. You know you are heading in the right direction and, that is the case here. This is stunning Northern Rhone Shiraz. It's ripe, powerful, spicy and mineral. It's ready to drink now however, another 3 - 10 years in bottle will see it flourish. Lovely stuff!
Slightly acid granite on the right bank of the Rhône, on the foothills of the Massif Central.
Grapes are destemmed. Maceration for about 20 days. Extraction made by pumping over and punching down.
MATURING In oak barrels and vats for 12 months before bottling.
Colour : intense ruby colour..
Nose : small black berries (blackcurrant, blackberry), violet, hints of liquorice.
Palate : soft attack, with aromas of red fruit.
The backbone of the wine is its minerality.
The finish is long and spicy.
Region: St-Joseph, France

Another huge, sexy wine is the 2015 St Joseph La Source, which at this quality, sells for a song. Black raspberries, cassis, red currants, licorice and graphite all emerge from this full-bodied beauty that has sweet tannin and a stacked mid-palate. It will benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and drink well for over a decade. Twenty-eight bucks? More please. The quality (and number of cuvées) from this estate continues to soar, and this is easily the finest lineup up of wines I’ve tasted from this team.
