"Elegant. Pure. Lean-ish but not worryingly so, the more-than-ample trade-off being exceptional length. Custard apple, stonefruit, citrus and oatmeal flavours have the wine singing. Touches of honeysuckle and lactose too. Wait a year and you’ll have a ripping drink on your hands."

94 points - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front, May 2017

"A highly attractive though understated nose, with fresh dough, lemon curd and a little spice. The palate is rather fabulous with restraint, texture and lemony juiciness. There is a beautiful core of integrated acidity, which channels and defines the wine. A stunning wine, made from grapes sourced entirely from the Lusatia Park vineyard."

"From Block A on the Lusatia Park Vineyard, whole bunch-pressed, wild-fermented with full mlf (malolactic fermentation), matured for 9 months in used barriques. Lusatia Park is in the Upper Yarra, and the cooler climate - coupled with the modest alcohol - led to the decision to take the wine through mlf. It certainly hasn't stripped the elegance or fresh, juicy/limey acidity of this lovely chardonnay. The Yarra Valley length of flavour is on full display, oak (obviously) simply a means to an end." -

  • Hand picked, chilled, hand sorted and whole bunch pressed. Juice is allowed to settle for about an hour then racked to barrel to complete fermentation using natural yeast. The wine completes malolactic fermentation to reduce the prominence of primary fruit characters and is then stirred intermittently until Spring. In December the wine is gravity racked, then bottled in early February.

Located at Woori Yallock in the upper reaches of the Yarra Valley. Extraordinary north facing De Bortoli family owned vineyard. Planted in 1985, close vine spacing, lots of manual work in the vines, deep red basalt soils. Typically produces fine, minerally, age worthy Chardonnay.

2017 was cool and dry producing one of the most outstanding Chardonnay vintages of the last 10 years.
