- Compañía de Vinos Telmo Rodriguez was founded in 1994. Telmo - a self-professed “driving winemaker”- came to Rioja searching for the soul of the region, returning to the villages where a few special plots express themselves. Lanciego is a village in the foothills of the Sierra de Cantabria mountains, reflecting the contrasting contributions of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic influences. Native grape varieties, grown on the best soils and subject to the best viticulture are the philosophical tenets, allowing the wines to express their innate qualities thanks to simple, but scientifically-grounded winemaking.Located at an altitude of 500 to 700 meters.
We find two types of soils, both of continental origin from the tertiary era. Some are developed on sandstone plateaus and are shallow, flat, stony, limy and of silty texture. The others are found on slopes on marls and are moderately deep, with gentle slopes, less stony, limy and of a very fine texture.
The 2017 vintage is mainly characterized by the intense spring frosts at the end of April as well as by the high temperatures during summer. These difficult weather conditions caused an early harvest and provoked a much lower production than usual.
