With 2017 being quite cool and wet, this wine is a very elegant style of Barossa Valley GSM. It was a very strong year for Mataro, which gives this wine a great depth of colour, but also a lovely savoury backbone on the nose and palate. The Shiraz component adds flesh to the palate and some soft, blue fruits. The Grenache is all the pretty florals and spice on the nose and palate.

  • Each variety was picked and made separately, allowing me to pick the fruit at optimum ripeness and make the best wines possible. The Shiraz component had a good amount of whole bunch in it, which works out to be 17% whole bunch in total. All fermented wild and foot stomped twice a day to minimise extraction. 12 days on skins on average before basket pressing to old french oak to mature for 6 months. Blended and bottled with no fining and no filtration.

    Vintage: 2017
Varietal: 34% Grenache, 34% Shiraz and 32% Mataro
    Appellation: Barossa Valley, SA
    Alcohol: 12.5%

It is extraordinary how the fruit flavours are ripe with such low alcohol for this blend… Totally delicious wine.

The nose shows freshly picked brambleberries and wild cherries, complementing fresher elements of herbs and crushed stones. Full body, some lovely steely tannins and a chewy finish. Drink in 2020.
